The power of visualization in goal setting when putting together your business model cannot be overemphasized. The phrase “seeing is believing” is what we’ve been taught to believe. But the key phrase you want to focus on to get the results you want in life is “believing is seeing”.
When setting goals it is mandatory that you write them down on paper. Experts on goal setting all agree on this point. There’s something almost “magical” about putting the pen to the page. We all have these incredible ideas and concepts and dreams swimming around in our imaginations that are yearning for release. Putting the pen to the page is the first act that connects our vision to physical reality. This singular act is the first step towards bridging the gap from the dream or spiritual world to the physical world.
It has been discovered that only 3% of the population write down their goals. Ironically, this same 3% achieve more than the remaining 97%….combined! But writing your goals down is only part of the equation. The most successful in every field use powerful visualization and strong imagery to deepen their imaginations that helped them to manifest their visions. Somehow they were “led” to the right places, where they met the right people, at the right time, where intuitive “hunches” when acted upon created results that oftentimes far outstripped their wildest dreams.
Here is a visualization technique in goal setting that you can use:
1) Get a pen and pad and find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Assume a comfortable posture and close your eyes. Relax yourself with about 90 seconds of deep slow breathing. Make sure that you’re not too relaxed or you find yourself wanting to go to sleep.
2) Begin to focus on the things you want in both you business and personal life and…..,this is important……realize that there is no distinction between your business and personal goals! You must ”see”vividly the home that you “live” in, the cars you “drive”, the vacations you’ll take….and start to imagine them as “a way of life” instead of waiting for a 2 week gap in the year to take them. Imagine the “toys” that would increase your happiness and see them in your present life. Also “see” the impact you now have on the world. Hear, see, and feel the people around you reacting positively to your powerful presence and creative imagination. Your vision is changing lives! And the world is so much better for it.
Understand that the scope and size of your imagination will dictate the power, type, and size of the business enterprise that “manifests” itself. It will seem as if you have done nothing at all. Your job at this point is simply to visualize with clarity and intensity.
3) After 15 minutes you’ll pick up your journal and “write the vision”. Once a week you’ll revise your journal. This could be done on a Saturday or a Sunday when you have more time at your disposal. You will then create your goals from your vision. Make sure to have long term (3 to 5 years), mid term (1 to 3 years), and short term (1 day to 1 year). Then…..Work your way backwards….and create a “road map”. This is an extremely powerful technique.
Don’t start with the business concept. Start with the biggest vision you have of your life, visualize it, put it on paper and allow the business to manifest itself.
